First-time clients must meet with the Kitchen manager initially to reserve time in the kitchen. After the manager schedules your first booking, you will be sent a username and password to access our online scheduling system. Repeat clients can use the online scheduling system or call the kitchen manager to reserve time in the kitchen.

10   How far in advance can I book the kitchen?

Bookings can be made as early as 2 months in advance. While repeat clients are encouraged to use our online scheduling system to reserve the kitchen, any client may call the office directly to reserve time.

11   How late can I cancel a booking?

Once time has been reserved, it becomes unavailable to other Kitchen Clients. Because of this, DeKS maintains a cancellation policy to ensure kitchen time does not go unused. We encourage our kitchen clients to carefully consider how much time is needed, and to use any overbooked hours for preparation, organization, experimentation, etc.

  • Reservations may be cancelled up to 48 hours prior to the rented time without penalty. The Kitchen Client will be free to reschedule the cancelled hours at a future time in that month as part of their used hours under their Lease Agreement.

  • Cancellations made less than 48 hours prior to the rented time will be billed as originally reserved.

Credit cannot be extended to kitchen clients for unused hours, but Delaware Kitchen Share will assist clients in finding others who might be interested in occupying the kitchen during the hours unused. 13   What if I need extra hours in a month?

If there is unreserved time available, additional hours can be purchased at the same rate you are paying for that month.

14   What if I need to use the kitchen on a Sunday?

Special arrangements can be made. Please contact the kitchen manager.

15   What is a Food Manager Certificate? Why do I need one?

6 to 12 million Americans contract food-borne illnesses each year. These illnesses can be prevented by ensuring that those who handle food are properly educated about how to do so. Such education is offered through a food safety training program by an accrediting agency.

A Food Manager Certificate is awarded at the completion of such a program. Receipt of this certificate indicates understanding about the proper handling of food according to national standards. Many states require that individuals who handle food complete such training in an effort to prevent the spread of food-borne illnesses.

Effective May 11, 2014, the 2014 Delaware Food Code requires that the person in charge of a food business be certified through an accredited food protection manager certification program. The Division of Public Health is offering Delaware establishments a 1-year grace period beyond the effective date of the new code to meet this requirement.
